Zoomey Tunes (CANCELLED)
Composition Workshop for Young String Players
July 6-17, 2020
This summer, after 25 fantastic years of Quartetfest, Del Sol is proud to announce a new program for young musicians who are looking to explore their creativity and share socially-distanced music with their friends! Zoomey Tunes is a two week program where students will compose a short piece of music for their solo instrument, and then be given a piece written by their peers to perform. Along with esteemed guest artists Danny Clay and Carla Kihlstedt, we hope to foster an environment for creating, sharing, and interpreting our own music.
Structure:
Group sessions 10-11:30 AM PST Monday-Thursday; 10-12PM PST, Friday
Individual lesson in week 2
Week 1: Composition
Students will compose one short solo piece for their instrument, with guidance throughout the week from the Del Sol Quartet, guest artist Danny Clay, and their peers in small composing pods
Week 2: Performing
Each student will receive one of their peers’ compositions, and spend the week learning how to approach and interpret new music, with a private lesson with a member from Del Sol and guidance from guest artist Carla Kihlstedt, in preparation for a virtual concert on July 17!
