Del Sol welcomes Samuel Weiser
The Del Sol Quartet is delighted to announce that violinist Samuel Weiser has joined the critically acclaimed ensemble.
Sam’s wide-ranging fluency in bluegrass, klezmer, jazz, and contemporary Classical music brings new dimensions to the adventurous San Francisco-based string quartet. A longtime alumnus of the Mark O’Connor fiddle camps, he holds undergraduate degrees in music and computer science from New England Conservatory and Tufts University. This spring, Sam completes his Masters degree in the Chamber Music program at the San Francisco Conservatory where he studies with Ian Swensen. According to Del Sol’s founding violist, Charlton Lee, "Sam feels like a long-lost musical sibling and is already adding a wonderful sense of curiosity, openness, and energy to the group."
Sam succeeds Rick Shinozaki, will continue to contribute to the Del Sol mission as a member of the Del Sol Performing Arts extended family. “After 15 years on the Del Sol Express, it seemed like time to give someone else a chance to ride in the hot-seat,” explained Shinozaki. He is proud to have participated in Del Sol’s growth into a major force in contemporary chamber music and especially treasures the collaborations with composers such as Terry Riley, Gabriela Lena Frank, Huang Ruo, Frederic Rzewski, and Ben Johnston, as well as countless students.
