Gregory Spears' The Righteous: Faith, Politics, and Power
Del Sol Quartet explores undercurrents of The Righteous, a world premiere by Gregory Spears and Tracy K. Smith at Santa Fe Opera, where the Biblical story of David unfolds in 1980s America - complete with televangelists, power politics and the AIDS crisis. Music by Chinary Ung, Ben Johnston, and Shelley Washington gives fresh ways of hearing faith, compassion and identity. Spears' own String Quartet #2, originally commissioned and premiered by Chatter in 2022, rounds out the program.
