Kimetha Vanderveen, a San Francisco-based visual artist who creates paintings and works on paper, has been awarded various awards and residencies, including at the MacDowell Colony and Cité International des Arts in Paris. Her works have been exhibited at various museums and galleries in the Bay Area, New York City, Seattle and St. Louis, and she has had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Achenbach Foundation collection of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco includes a suite of her drawings from 2011. Art critic Kenneth Baker wrote that her work “embodies the paradox of aesthetic power with apparently minimal effort,” noting that her paintings on panel look “breathed into being…” (SF Chronicle 11/19/11) Vanderveen received a B.A. in Studio Art and in Anthropology from Stanford University and her M.F.A. in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis.
